Saturday, June 13th
The H.L Thomas Cup will be held on Saturday, June 13th with an early race time of 11:00 AM.
A celebratory diner will be held that evening (Location TBD).
The H.L.Thomas Cup Regatta was first raced in 1978. The winner of the Regatta has their name attached to a sterling silver loving cup that is kept by Greer's Ferry Yacht Club. At one time, there were over 40 boats participating in the regatta, ranging from keelboats, to racing dinghies. This year's winner will receive a replica of the cup for their trophy case.
We have not ran this one in a number of years and we want to honor our history by bringing back one of the originals.
Herbert L. Thomas Sr. was born in February 1899 in rural Ashley County in far south Arkansas and would go on to become one of the state’s great business leaders. Thomas and his wife, Ruby, had fallen in love with the Greers Ferry area and in 1961, Thomas purchased 500 acres near Heber Springs for a development that would become known as Eden Isle. His passion late in life was the development of Eden Isle and the Red Apple Inn. Established in the early in GFLYC’s history, the Regatta was named after Mr. Thomas due to his historical legacy in the area.
